Birthday Party and River Rafting (in my car) Weekend
Friday I had a few friends from work over for a 30th birthday party. Was fun to have company and enjoy some good food and drinks. All a part of my birthday month extravaganza. Oh no, I just realized I only have a few days left of my birthmonth. Hmmmmmm....what to do? Saturday I made a trip out to my cousin Tobi and Shelli's house for their daughters graduation party but not without a little adventure along the way. First of all Friday night we had a big rain storm and aparently worse in the suburbs that I was unaware of. I knew it would take longer to get out there cause it was the weekend so I figured at least 1 hour and 45 minutes. After 10 miles traffic backed up and I thought there was a wreck or something. Nothing new...but...after an hour and going 2 miles, 4 lanes of traffic was being directed off a closed interstate because it was flooded. I got off and had NO idea where to go so I just headed in the general direction using back roads and following other cars hoping I could get back on later. I tried calling my cousins but no one answered cause the party with 100 peeps had already started and I'm sure they were busy. So I called my dad to look it up on google maps and help me figure it out BUT as I got further in the roads were soooo flooded and there was so much traffic you couldn't turn around nor could you turn off cause side roads were flooded. At one point I was driving through water up to the middle of my doors and FREAKING OUT! Cars were stuck and hoods were up and I'm trying to talk to my dad at the same time. I wasn't very nice a couple times and had to later apologize cause I was stressed out. After a few tears and making it across the "river" I finally made it to dry land and my dad directed me back to another interstate that was open. I was so nervous I was gonna get stuck where no one I knew could get to me cause of the water and soooo much traffic....blah blah anyway....I finally made it to Tobi and Shelli's and was sooo emotionally exhausted but had to keep my composure so I could meet all these new people. I just went in the house to chill for a bit but felt awful for them as well because apparently their basement had flooded early that morning so instead of having time to start getting ready for the party they spent a ton of time using buckets to get water out of the basement. Well, we survived and it could have been worse. I ended up just staying there last night and Shelli and I got up early and ran. I really enjoy hanging out with her. We had a great run and convo and had coffee and breakfast before I had to leave to make sure I would get ot work. I was so sad to leave. Kinda weird. Was wishing I could have just spend the day hangin out. I took a different route home and was actually a little bit faster than the other one I had always taken. I think I will do that from now on. ESPECIALLY if it rains the night before!
